If you’re like me, when you arrive at church on Sunday mornings you grab a cup of coffee, say hello to a few friends and greet others on your way to find your seat. In unison we worship through music, praise, and the preaching of the Word. On the way to the car you say hello to a few folks and head home. The Sunday morning experience is over and the responsibilities of life take over once again. The value of corporate worship is immense. Gathering with other believers of like faith is encouraging, educational, and powerful in prayer and praise.
Living Life Together in Community
As Christians, we are called to love one another. In the example above, the opportunity to really get to know what God is doing in the lives of others doesn’t exist. If I love other Christians the way Christ loved the church then I will go beyond the Sunday morning experience and engage with other believers on a personal level.
You cannot accomplish anything of significance in isolation, significance always involves others.
The Search for Significance
Here are 4 ways being part of a community help people live life with purpose:
1) We need to know and be known.
2) We get to experience “qualified” or “relevant” love (not shallow or superficial).
3) I can serve and be served at a higher, meaningful level.
4) I can also be challenged and held accountable in more “qualified” and “relevant” ways.”
When you find the right others, they will bring out the best in you and you do the same for them. You will be better together.
